Sachin Tendulkar New Target Of Deepfakes | Who Is Next? Watch Video
Following the deepfake video of Indian actress Rashmika Mandana, the cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has come out against the misuse of technology after he discovered his deepfake video circulating on social media platforms.
Sachin Tendulkar posted on social media platform X: “These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers. Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deepfakes.”
This highlights how important it is to frame specific laws and regulations against the misuse of deepfakes. The Indian government should develop an urgent framework to regulate these instances before it’s too late. Obviously, there are provisions under the Information Technology Act and Indian Penal Code but the question is whether there is any specific legislation that punishes the creator of deepfakes or any legislation which prevents deepfakes from being created in the first instance.
